The first series (2005) sees Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) sentenced to death for the murder of Terrence Steadman, the brother of the Vice President of the United States.

Although a high school drop-out and ex-con, Burrows did not commit the crime and was set up. He is sent to the Fox River State Penitentiary, where he must await his execution.

His brother, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), is an outstanding structural engineer who helped contrast the very prison that Burrows is in.

He is so sure of his brother's innocence that he holds up a bank, in order to get incarcerated in the same prison.

Once locked up alongside his brother, Michael Scofield devises an ingenious plan to help him break and prove that he was framed.

Once inside, Scofield realises that some sort of conspiracy has been set in motion to ensure his brother is put to death, which makes breaking out just that little bit harder.

Veronica Donovan (Robin Tunney) is a life-long friend of the two brothers and aids them in their escape by investigating the reasons behind Lincoln's unjust imprisonment.

In jail, Michael Scofield pretends to have Type 1 diabetes and befriends the prison doctor, Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) so that he can get access to the prison's medical wing.

Hindered by agents from The Company, Scofield must work fast in order to save his brother from death.

The second series (2006) in this thrilling DVD box set starts just eight hours after escapes of the season one finale.

The brothers and six of their inmates; Benjamin Miles 'C-Note' Franklin (Rockmond Dunbar), Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), Charles 'Haywire' Patoshik (Silas Weir Mitchell), Theodore 'T-Bag' Bagwell (Robert Knepper, David 'Tweener' Apolskis (Lane Garrison) and John Abruzzi (Peter Stormare) managed to escape from prison and are on the run.

The convicts split up and journey to different locations to do what they have to do. All the while, the fugitives are being pursued by the authorities who are hot on their tails.

The prison break-outs are in search of millions of dollars that was buried long ago by another and Brad Bellick (Wade Williams), an ex prison guard, chases the fugitives in an attempt to get the reward money for himself.

Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner) is the federal agent that's been hired to track down and capture all eight of the escapees, but it's eventually uncovered that this man is a member of The Company, which wants to see all of them killed.

Sara meets Michael after finding her dead father and stays with him as the Fox River Eight try to bring down the President, who's also a member of The Company.

Some of the escapees are killed or caught, but the brothers make it to Panama, but some of the remaining escapees are imprisoned at the Penitenciaria Federal de Sona.

The third series (2007) follows Michael inside the prison in Panama with has no guards (expect on the outside) and no rules, since a riot the year before.

Whilst Lincoln is on the outside, he is contacted by Gretchen Morgan (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe), a Company operative who has kidnapped his son Lincoln Junior (Marshall Allman) and Sara, who Michael Loves.

The Company wants Michael Scofield to break James Whistler (Chris Vance) out of the hellish Panama prison, so the series follows their attempts to devise the best prison break yet.

Sucre, one of the Fox River Eight, gets a job in the prison so that he can help Scofield in his break-out, a deed that later sees him locked up too.

Michael must use his skills and knowledge once more, to free himself and Whistler (under The Company's request) from the Sona prison, so that he can get revenge on someone for a terrible loss and reveal the government conspiracy once and for all.
