This classic DVD Box Set was released in 1997, as scenes from the original Star Wars Trilogy were restored and enhanced. The original Star Wars Trilogy would be a fantastic gift for birthdays, Christmas or any other occasion, as it makes for great viewing.
The first of the films in this gripping DVD Box Set is entitled 'Episode IV: A New Hope'. It was originally given the title 'Star Wars' (1977) and was intended as a standalone film, but was branded 'Episode IV' to distinguish it from the sequels and prequels that were later made.
In a Galaxy far, far away, the Rebel Alliance (a group of freedom fighters) plan to destroy the Death Star, an evil space station powerful enough to obliterate a planet. The Rebel Alliance is lead by the beautiful Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), who gets her hands on the Death Star's evil master plans.
Darth Vader captures Princess Leia, who has already hidden the plans in R2-D2, a droid (Kenny Baker). R2-D2 and his friend C-3P0 (Anthony Daniels) escape to the desert world of Tatooine, where they meet Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), a simple farm boy living with his aunt and uncle.
A group of Strom Troopers who have been sent to get the plans back into the “right” hands kill Luke's aunt and uncle, so he and the robots meet with the wise Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness). Kenobi has been living in the secluded deserts of Tatooine for many years, but now has to train Luke the Jedi ways.
The four set off on a mission to return the plans to Alderaan, the home of Princess Leia, so the rebels can continue their plans to rid of the Death Star. Luke, Obi-Wan and the robots are joined by Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) in their attempt to rescue Leia from the control of the evil Empire.
Luke must help the Rebellion overthrow the Empire and fulfil his destiny as a Jedi Knight by destroying the Death Star and saving the Rebel base from total destruction. Obi-Wan ends up in a death defying lightsaber duel with Darth Vader (David Prowse), an old apprentice of his who turned to the dark side...
The second film in this affordable DVD Box Set is 'Episode V: The Empire Strikes back' (1980) and tells the story of a dark time for the Rebellion. The screenplay was directed by Irvin Kershner and written by Lawrence Kasdan and Leigh Brackett (based on the story by George Lucas).
It's three years after the destruction of the Death Star, but Imperial forces (including Darth Vader) continue to relentlessly pursue the rebels. Princess Leia, Han Solo and the robots flee their ice base on the frozen planet of Hoth in the damaged Millennium Falcon, but are captured by Darth Vader in the beautiful cloud city of Bespin.
Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker gets advanced Jedi training from the wisest Jedi Master, Yoda (Frank Oz), who he finds hiding in the swamps of Dagobah. Luke must save his friends, but on doing so falls straight into the trap of Darth Vader. If you want to watch the dramatic ending to this unforgettable film, you simply must buy the Star Wars Original Trilogy DVD Box Set!
The third and final film in this affordable DVD Box Set is 'Episode VI: Return of the Jedi' (1983) is set four years after episode V and is an epic conclusion to the Star Wars saga. It is directed by Richard Marquand and written by George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan.
The evil Emperor and Darth Vader are constructing a new Death Star, more powerful and destructive than the last, which the Rebellion must attempt to destroy once again. Hans Solo is being kept prisoner by the outlaw Jabba the Hutt and Princess Leia soon also falls into the crime Lord's hands.
Luke Skywalker, R2-D2 and C-3P0 set out on a mission to Jabba's palace to save their friends, but Jabba tries to kill them all. The rebels manage to escape from Jabba and rejoin the Rebellion and a team of Ewoks in a huge attack on the new Death Star.
Luke Skywalker must confront his father (Darth Vader) and have a lightsaber duel with him in front of the Emperor, who is desperately trying to turn Luke to the dark side too. Will Luke's attempts to rekindle the Jedi spirit in his father work, or will the galaxy continue to be ruled by the evil Sith?
The fourth disc in this must-have, affordable DVD Box Set is the 'Star Wars Trilogy – Bonus Material'. It's a great extra, as it proves the making of the epic films was just as enthralling as the storylines. Behind the scenes footage and exclusive interviews make this box set the ultimate gift for any Star Wars fan or newcomer.
The first episodes, 'Episode I: The Phantom Menace', 'Episode II: Attack of the Clones' and 'Episode III: Revenge of the Sith' are prequels to the original Star Wars Trilogy. It was decided that the story of how Darth Vader came about was far too intricate and dramatic to not depict.
These films can be bought in a separate DVD Box Set entitled 'Star Wars Prequel Trilogy' which was released in 2005. As well as the DVD Box Set of the films, the Star Wars story is told in books, comics and computer games and there's also endless amounts of memorabilia and figurines to be had!
