The Mummy characters first appeared in a 1932 film of the same name, starring Boris Karloff, when Universal Studios agreed to fund a new The Mummy film in the 1990s with a budget of $80million.

The Mummy DVD Box Sets follow American Rick O'Connell, librarian and aspiring Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan, and her brother Jonathan, on a series of adventures set in Egypt and the great pyramids.

The first in the trilogy, The Mummy, released in 1999, follows Rick, Evelyn and Jonathan as they try to reach lost city, Hamunaptra, which they find out to be embedded with evil, ancient curses.

The main treasures of The Mummy are two books; The Book of the Dead (which Evelyn reads from, accidently waking up mummy, High Priest Imhotep) and the Book of Amon-Ra, a book capable of taking life away.

Evelyn realises she needs to use the Book of Amon-Ra to kill Imhotep once again, whilst Imhotep (who betrayed his sovereign out of love for Anck-su-namun, and put to death because of it) believes sacrificing Evelyn will bring his love back to life.

Through their journey, we meet other interesting and humorous characters, including Egyptologist Dr. Allen Chamberlain who leads the expedition, and Beni Gabor, a former Legion soldier who, along with Rick, knows of the location of Hamunaptra.

The sequel, The Mummy Returns, is set 10 years later when Rick and Evelyn are married, and have a young son, Alex. Settled in London, their life is shattered when Imhotep's body is shipped to the British museum, and is resurrected once again to resume his evil conquest for immortality.

Meanwhile in Egypt, another ancient threat surfaces, this time in the shape of The Scorpion King (played by 'The Rock',Dwayne Johnson), a mighty warrior frozen in time with his supernatural army, who plans to seek revenge for his death about 5000 years ago.

Whoever kills him will have control of his demonic army, and Imotep and Meela (the woman who raised Imhotep from the dead...again) plan to do just that!

The O'Connell family use the Bracelet of Anubis to reach the ancient villain, and so the race is on to save the world from unspeakable evil...who will defeat The Scorpion King? Or will The Scorpion King be undefeated?

The third and final part of The Mummy trilogy, is this time set in China.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, once again sees Rick, joined by Evelyn, Alex and Jonathan, who must stop a 2,000 year old curse and a mummy who threatens to plunge the world into merciless terror.

The ancient Chinese mummy, Dragon Emperor (Jet Li), is resurrected by Alex who was tricked by a sorceress, and so is forced to enlist the help of his parents to get rid of the un-dead.

The adventure is set in the underground catacombs of ancient China, through to the epic Himalayan Mountains. The Dragon Emperor's quest for revenge has intensified over the millennia he lay dead, and so the race is on to stop the Mummy Emperor from raising his legion army, and taking over the world.
