Gavin and Stacey is one of the UK's best loved TV sitcoms, which follows Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) and Stacey West (Joanna Page) embarking on a new relationship together.

Gavin and Stacey is a well-written comedy sitcom, with brilliant characters and great actors, with stories that are realistic and charming which re sure to keep you hooked.


Much of the two series follows them trying to deal with living far apart, as Gavin lives in Billericay, Essex, and Stacey in Barry, near Cardiff in Wales.

Both Gavin and Stacey are nice, sweet people, who are really affectionate with each other. However, their quite life is often interrupted by their close friends, Gavin's best mate, Smithy (James Corden), and Stacey's best friend, Nessa (Ruth Jones).

Gavin and Stacey is a highly funny sitcom, with Smithy especially often playing the clown. His comedic performance is heightened by his on-going flirtation with Gavin's mum, and his on-going, regrettable one-night stands with Nessa, who are equally repulsed by, and attracted to, each other!


As well as their friends, Gavin and Stacey's parents are equally amusing. Gavin's parents, Pam (Alison Steadman) and Mick (Larry Lamb), are both very proud of their only child. Pam, as well as having to pretend to be vegetarian (she was under the impression Stacey's parents were, and wanted to make a good impression), also is a big fan on Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and acts out sexual fantasies of Charles and Camilla with Mick!

Stacey's parents are equally bizarre. Her father passed away three years before the series began, and her uncle vowed to look after her and her mother. Her mother, Gwen West (Melanie Walters), is a sweet, middle aged housewife, who simply wants the best for Stacey.

But her uncle and surrogate father, Bryn (Rob Brydon) is hilarious, finding modern technology and modern life generally fascinating, and enjoys the simple things in life.


Series Two

Series Two picks up from where Series One finished, with Gavin and Stacey trying to settle into married life. However, with Stacey having moved to Essex, it doesn't take long for homesickness to kick in, causing friction in their relationship.

Nessa and Smithy also have to evaluate their friendship, especially as they discover they will be sharing much more than bad memories.

Gavin and Stacey is a complete television gem, which is almost solely due to the excellent writing work by Ruth Jones and James Corden.

However, the great performances by leads Mathew Horne and Joanna Page cannot be forgotten, proving us with a convincing portrayal of true love.
