The first film of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy DVD Box Set is Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) and although it was the fourth Star Wars film to be released, it was actually the first in terms of the saga's chronology.
In the opening of The Phantom Menace, two Jedi Knights, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and his apprentice Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) must try to do something about the deteriorating Galactic Republic.
The evil Trade Federation surround the planet of Naboo, so Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan must go to rescue the youthful Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) and help her save her home planet.
It's not long before the federation launch an attack, after being told by the evil Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid) to kill all Jedi on planet Naboo.
The two Jedi Knights manage to get Queen Amidala to the safety of Tatooine (a desert planet) along with Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best), a Gungan recluse who the Jedi also rescued.
Whilst at Tatooine, the Jedi meet Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), a slave boy entrapped by Watto (Andy Secombe), an evil gambler. There's an instant connection between Anakin and Padmé (the real Queen Amidala) and Qui-Gon senses that there's strong force within the young boy.
After Anakin wins a Podrace, Qui-Gon wins his bet with Watto and Anakin is freed. After an attack from Darth Maul (Ray Park), Darth Sidious's apprentice, the Jedi make a narrow escape and set out to help Queen Amidala save her people.
The Jedi Council at first refuse to allow Anakin to train as a Jedi, until a tragedy involving Qui-Gon leaves them with second-thoughts. Obi-Wan now much teach Anakin the ways of The Force, so that he can become a Jedi Knight and help defend the Galactic Republic.
Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (2002) sees a more adult Anakin (Hayden Christensen) disobeying the ways of the Jedi by starting a forbidden relationship with Padmé. She is now Senator of her home planet Naboo, but after an assassination attempt on her life, Obi-Wan and Anakin must go to investigate.
When they finally catch up with the female assassin, she is killed before they can get any information from her. When Obi-Wan is sent to investigate why these assassination attempts on the Senator keep happening, Anakin is left with her in Naboo to protect her from danger.
Obi-Wan discovers an army of clones being produced on planet Kamino and also becomes aware of a separatists movement led by a former Jedi Master, Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) against the Republic. With the Galactic Republic on the verge of a Civil War, Anakin and the rest of the Jedi must do what they can to defend the Republic.
All the while, Anakin must battle with his own feelings of infatuation for Amidala and must deal with a family tragedy that leaves him further drawn to the dark side...
The third film in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy DVD box set is Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (2005) and tells the story of Anakin, who married to a pregnant Padmé, but is struggling with recurring disturbing visions.
Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) has been kidnapped by the evil General Grievous (Matthew Wood) and Obi Wan and Anakin are sent to his rescue.
The Jedi Council ask Anakin to spy on Palpatine following his rescue, but the two become close friends and Anakin starts to go off the rails.
Once again, the fate of the galaxy is under threat as Darth Sidious plans to take over completely and the Jedi must battle their way to survival. What will become of the troubled Anakin and will his horrific vision come true?
The Revenge of the Sith ends with a dark and sinister climax that's not to be missed, as all of your answers are finally answered, including who is Darth Vader and why is he so damn evil?!
